INTRODUCTION

The Catalogue designed to serve as a guide for calculating and compiling the Orders for spare parts is intended for those concerned with the operation and repairs of the "Chaika" GAZ-14 cars.

The present Catalogue is current to January 1, 1978. It covers the nomenclature of parts that might be required in service and repair of the "Chaika" GAZ-14 car.

The Catalogue contains the following sections:

- Specifications.
- Numerical grouping.
- Units and parts.
- Purchased articles.
- Standard parts.
- Part number index.

The first section provides a brief description and specifications of the car.

The second section (Numerical grouping) contains functional groups and subgroups. The section makes it easier to use the Catalogue.

The third section (Units and parts) provides designation, description and quantity of parts per subgroup. Fig. No. and Ref. No. are printed opposite the description of each part.

All units and parts are listed according to functional groups and subgroups in an increasing order. All fasteners are listed immediately after the parts with which they are used.

Units and parts are numbered according to a common seven-digit system adopted at all automobile factories of the USSR. Part numbers are explained as follows: for example - 14-2802014:

14 - (in this case two digits separated from seven-digit part number by a hyphen) - designation of car model.
28 - (the first two digits of the seven-digit part number) - "Frame" Group No.
02 - (the second two digits of the seven-digit part number) - "Mudguards" Subgroup No.
014 - (the last three digits of the seven-digit part number) - the ordinal number of the part "Mudguard, right-hand".

The part designation 14-2802014 is read as follows: fourteen, hyphen, twenty eight, zero two, zero fourteen.

Letter indices A, Al, A2, A3 ... or digit indices 01, 02, 03. . . printed after the part Nos indicate that the parts have been modified in the process of manufacture but remain interchangeable with the original part (without the index) and with each other.

Part designations with indices B, B1, B2. . . or indices 10, 11, 12... printed after the part Nos indicate that these parts are interchangeable with each other but are not interchangeable with the original parts without any index or with parts having indices A, Al, A2... or 01, 02, 03...

Digit indices 20, 21, 22... indicate that these parts are interchangeable with each other (within 20 and 29 range) but are not interchangeable with parts without any index and with those having indices A, Al, A2, A3... or 01, 02, 03....

The parts of associate manufacturers bear their original Nos (AB211-T for example), with a seven-digit part No. given at the GAZ Works being printed in brackets in the "Description" column following the text of the description.

The Catalogue is provided with essential illustrations showing the parts isometrically in an assembling order.

To find a part designation determine the Subgroup to which the unit containing the mentioned part belongs. On the page indicated for this Subgroup find the required part in the figure, define the Fig. No. and the Ref. No. of the part.

"Purchased articles" section covers bearings, balls, rollers, needles, oil seals with rubber collars, rubber hoses and bulbs and provides their basic characteristics, mounting and coupling sizes and indicates the Subgroups where they are used and quantity of articles per car. This Section is useful in selection of parts according to their dimensions and applicability and in evaluation of the total amount of purchased parts.

"Standard parts" section comprises typical standard parts used in the GAZ-14 cars. The Tables of this section provide parts designation, their sizes, quantity per car and Subgroup No. where each part is used. Illustrations of each part are provided.

The standard parts are grouped according to their types in an increasing order. They have six-digit Nos with an index indicating their coating (for example, washer 252135-P29 where P29 indicate zinc-plating and passivating).

Coatings mentioned in the catalogue are marked as follows:

P - plain.
P2 - phosphated and oiled.
P5 - copper-plated.
P8 - zinc-plated.
P13 - chrome-plated (bright finish).
P18 - cyanide-treated.
P21 - cadmium-plated.
P29 - zinc-plated and passivated.
M6.H3.X.4 - chrome-plated (black finish).

The list of standard parts is presented at the beginning of the section.

In the sixth section of the catalogue the car parts (except for standard parts) are listed in the increasing order. Indicated opposite each part No. are the quantity of parts per car and Subgroup Nos where the part is used.
