All the parts are listed in groups and subgroups according to their functions. Within each subgroup they are arranged in the sequence of assembly. Miscellaneous standard parts (bolts, nuts, etc.) are listed immediately after the parts they fasten. According to the seven-digit system universally accepted at all automobile plants of the USSR a part number, for example 21-2202082, is deciphered as follows: 21- the first two digits before the hyphen denote the chassis model GAZ-21; 22 - the first two digits of the seven-digit part number following the hyphen represent the "Propeller shafts"; 02 - the second two digits of the seven-digit part number represent the "Intermediate propeller shaft"; 082 - the last three digits of the seven-digit part number designate the ordinal number of the "Propeller Shaft Centre Bearing Bracket". The part number 21-2202082 should be read as follows: twenty-one, hyphen, twenty-two, zero two, zero eighty-two. The suffixes A, B, etc. appearing after some part number refer to design changes and to the interchangeability of parts. Thus the suffixes A, Al, A2, A3 etc. indicate that parts are interchangeable with the basic part (not lettered with a suffix) and with each other. The suffixes B, B1, B2, BЗ etc. show that parts are interchangeable with each other only (such parts are not interchangeable with the basic part and with parts, having suffixes A, Al, A2, A3 etc). When ordering replacement parts specify the complete number of the part desired with or without a suffix as found in the Catalogue. The parts that were used on previous car models retain their original numbers. Each standard part number has six digits and a coating symbol. Various types of coating are designated by the following symbols: P - no coating; P1 - black-painted; P2 - phosphate-coated and oiled; P4 - phosphate-coated and black-painted; P5 - copper-plated; P6 - nickel-plated and polished; P7 - cadmium-plated; P8 - zink-plated; P9 - blued; P10 - tinned; P13 - chrome-plated (bright finish); P15 - oxidized; P16 - lead-plated; P18 - cyanide-treated; P19 - brass-plated; P22 - chrome-plated (dull finish); P29 - zink-plated and passivated. All standard parts in the "Standard parts" section are grouped according to types. The quantity required per car of each model is shown and a sketch of each type is included. For numbers, referring to parts dimensioned in inches the suffix "S" is equivalent to the suffix "P". |
